I honestly thought that was just a visual bug where the game just didn’t properly load the player’s info or got messed up due to all the new “hide my real name” features that have been added, because I’ve been seeing it a lot lately, but it’s usually someone who backfilled. In Overwatch it doesn't add a major tactical advantage because there is still your huge healthbar anyway, but I rarely encountered some istances where having a short or no name was beneficial (like a Widow peaking corners).
